Italian pottery has really become a hugely popular and highly sought after investment piece of today. You wouldn’t think pottery would be so popular and yet it really is. However, it’s all about the art work and how much time and effort has gone into each piece. It’s delicate work and one which can be preserved also. It does seem however, that many people aren’t sure how to take care of preserve the beauty of their ceramic dinnerware. Read on and find a few tips that might prove useful.
Do Not Use Italian Dinnerware within the Oven
People often place plates or dishes in the oven in order to heat them up so that when they are serving food, everything is piping hot. While that might appeal to some, it is certainly not going to be ideal for the ceramic. It’s not that they cannot stand the heat but rather the risk of cracking increases at hot temperatures. That is why you really should avoid placing the ceramics within the oven and ideally don’t place on a cooking burner either. Italian pottery can last a lifetime if you take care of them well. It’s a lot easier than you might think too.
We have all done it, reheated a meal within the microwave but for ceramics that’s not good. As said above, the heat isn’t so much the problem but rather the risks are greater when the heat is high and cracks and chips can appear. Microwaves are no different from ovens so when you are using Italian dinnerware, it’s best not to place them into the microwave. You can of course heat something up on another plate and transfer the food to the plate after.
No Thermal Shocks
Thermal shocks can occur when there is a sudden change in the temperature of the ceramic. When the dishes are cool and suddenly a very hot piece of food is added, it might cause thermal shock; it’s the same when the plates are very hot and suddenly a cold liquid drops on them. In order to avoid this, you want to carefully use gradually warm water to prep the Italian pottery. This will help to avoid cracks and thermal shock also.
Be Wary When Using a Dishwasher
Dishwashers are usually safe to use but you have to be very careful when you are tackling Italian dinnerware. You don’t want the ceramics to break or crack during the rinse cycle so you have to use the fine china settings on your dishwasher. Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use a lower heat temperature and possibly good detergent. However, if you are a bit too wary you could always wash carefully by hand. This will help to perverse the pieces.
Love Your Ceramics
People don’t often think ceramic plates and dishes need to be cared for in any other way than regular dishes but they do in a way. You have to be careful so that you preserve the beauty of the ceramics rather than ruin them after one wash! Italian pottery can be lovely and with a bit of care and attention you can easily take care of your ceramics.
